Liliana’s Quilt!
0This week I finished another quilt, this time for a baby girl. I used a pattern from Debbie Mumm’s Cuddle Quilts for Little Girls & Boys and I’m really happy with the way it turned out!
Most of the fabric used were remnants from previous projects or the bin at Joann’s. The red striped fabric was a garage sale find and the white fabric was stolen from my mother’s closet! The only materials I bought specifically for this project was some new threads, interfacing, the ribbons and ric rac.
This project was my first foray into the world of applique! I was intimidated at first, but it was a lot easier than I anticipated and a lot of fun.
The little ribbons were a challenge! I had a hard time making sure they stayed straight, even with pinning, and I wasn’t sure how to sew them on without disrupting the details on the ribbons.
I decided to do a diamond quilting pattern on the striped parts, and I was so happy with it!! It came out really cute.
My brother’s Quilt
0As I mentioned in this post back in November, I was starting on a new quilt for my brother. It was quite an ambitious undertaking: until then, I had made only baby quilts using patterns from books. For this one, I would be increasing the size significantly (I was planning on 70″x70″) and going off of a pattern I made myself with this online pattern generator:
It’s supposed to look like this shield from the PC game Ultima. Yes, my brother is a huge geek! Where do you think I get it from?
Dollywood!
0As you might recall, last month I had a trip to Tennessee that I was looking forward to because we would be in close proximity to Dollywood, Dolly Parton’s own amusement park.
We touched down in Tennessee and as luck would have it, it was raining cats and dogs. It was also quite late in the day. The rest of my party wasn’t too excited to traverse an amusement park in the rain, but I was determined to go so they graciously went with me. We got there around 5PM and went into the park, rain and all! Unfortunately, much of the park was closed due to the weather. We did manage to see a production of Babes in Toyland, which was a cute show for kids.(more…)
