Sometimes it’s not in the plans.
2Sunday night after I had gotten into my cute VS pajamas, Mike IMed me and said his parents were heading back up to the hospital after one of his aunts called, adding that he would be following them shortly. His aunt made it sound pretty urgent that everyone get there right away, Grandma Mary was doing very badly (her heartbeats per minute [BPM] could not get above about 45) and the doctors didn’t expect her to make it through the night. It wasn’t the first time they said this though. I offered to go with Mike for moral support and he took me up on the offer, so I got back into my jeans and drove out to meet him somewhere so we could drive up together.
Once we got to the hospital I found that Mike’s mother’s ENTIRE family was there. She has five sisters, and every one of them was there with their significant other, their kids, and their significant others. Everyone was looking very grave and crying, and one look at Grandma Mary let me know why. She had no strength at all and could barely nod her head. She was heavily sedated and we could tell by the glossy haze in her eyes. Mike couldn’t bring himself to talk to her and we spent the next two hours at her bedside, Mike staring at the heart monitor, willing the numbers to go up, and me standing next to him, feeling completely useless and invisible.
Anniversaries rock!
2On our anniversary, Mike and I both went to work as usual. When Mike called me at lunch like usual, he told me some sad news: his mom was flying back to California from Colorado because her mother, who had recently undergone heart surgery, is not doing well at all. The doctors have little hope she will last much longer. His dad was also cutting their vacation short and was currently driving back from Colorado. We decided to leave work early that day and start our anniversary plans early so we could drive up to Lakewood to see his grandmother that night.
Mike had a very special dinner planned for us and it turned out excellent:

Mmm look dinner! And it is…

Probably not the healthiest meal in the world lol, but the yummiest!
And he got me this gorgeous necklace:

It’s a three stone necklace with 2 small diamonds setting the middle stone apart. 3 stones, 3 years hehe.

After our dinner we headed up to see Mike’s grandmother. She was heavily sedated, but Mike’s aunts told us that her uclers had stopped bleeding that afternoon so hopefully she would begin to improve. Overall it was a bittersweet day, and I hope that Mike’s grandmother will continue to get better.
3 year Anniversary!
0Today Mike and I have been together for three years. I can’t believe it’s been so long!! It feels like just yesterday we went to our senior Witner Formal together and fell in love. Back then I thought we would be married by now, haha!
Since I know Mike won’t read this before tonight, I don’t mind telling you what I got him :loveeye: Nothing! I didn’t buy him anything per se, but I did make him a mix CD of romantic songs (I know, you’re gagging now) and I’m… almost done painting him a little painting of the two of us. I know, so sappy and romantic, but I know he’ll love them. Tonight he’s making me dinner — bacon wrapped Filet Mignon, thyme and …something, maybe garlic? mashed potatoes, and mixed veggies. Ah the perks of being a chef’s girlfriend :loveeye: I wonder what he got for me? He recently found an apartment to move into, and this week he signed the lease! I’m so excited! That’s the best anniversary present of all I think.
