Display Google Map in XHTML 1.0 Strict Document

Recently while working on a client’s website, they requested that I place a Google map iFrame on their “About” page. Something that looks like this:

Unfortunately, the above code that generates this nifty frame does not validate as XHTML 1.0 Strict. I did some research into it to see what can be done. Many sites suggested changing the site’s validation to XHTML Transitional, but I didn’t want to do that. Then I found this nifty article over at Ginchen’s Blog. The solution utilizes Javascript. It is a simple, clean solution and it works relatively well. The map doesn’t have all of the functionality of the original, but I think it works just fine.

When it rains, it pours

Last month was not a good month for me! First, I lost my cell phone (Samsung Comeback). Luckily, a friend of mine was looking to sell her Samsung Behold so at least I wouldn’t have to go back to my previous phone, a flip without a QWERTY keyboard!

Then, when I was flying back from Tennessee, I lost one of the diamond studs that Mike gave me for our two year anniversary, 6 years ago. Hopefully we can replace it :(

Lastly, I was working two days before Christmas, and I spilled a cup of tea on my laptop I use for work, a Toshiba Satellite. It was a graduation present from my parents when I finished University. I tried drying it out for a week, but it looks like it is completely dead. Luckily I have two other laptops I can use for now, but their specs aren’t as good as the Toshiba’s. One is a 2006 MacBook and the other is a 2004 Sony Vaio. Both were packing 512MB of RAM, but luckily their capacity was 2GB so I quickly upgraded those. Hopefully they can last me until I can afford a new one.

So please God, universe, whatever… please keep any badness from me! I can’t afford anymore hiccups!

Dollywood!

As you might recall, last month I had a trip to Tennessee that I was looking forward to because we would be in close proximity to Dollywood, Dolly Parton’s own amusement park.

We touched down in Tennessee and as luck would have it, it was raining cats and dogs. It was also quite late in the day. The rest of my party wasn’t too excited to traverse an amusement park in the rain, but I was determined to go so they graciously went with me. We got there around 5PM and went into the park, rain and all! Unfortunately, much of the park was closed due to the weather. We did manage to see a production of Babes in Toyland, which was a cute show for kids.
